On Monday 8 May 2023, Wrocław-based company Scanway S.A., which operates in the space industry, signed a cooperation agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Australian firm AICRAFT, which specialises in artificial intelligence. The companies will collaborate on the development of a telescope to observe changes on our planet from space, utilising artificial intelligence algorithms in its operation.
The collaboration is primarily aimed at harnessing the potential of both companies — the Australian firm’s expertise in AI and semiconductor technologies, and Scanway’s expertise in the design and manufacture of optoelectronic systems for space and industrial applications. The collaboration will enable the creation of smart Earth-observation telescopes equipped with artificial intelligence algorithms. Earlier this year, the Polish company launched a satellite which is already imaging our planet and providing the most accurate images of Earth from orbit ever taken by a company based in Poland.
Dr Tony Scoleri, Chief Executive of AICRAFT, points out that:
“Our partnership with Scanway gives us a tremendous opportunity to integrate our energy-efficient, high-speed edge computing technology into space-proven imaging systems used for real-time Earth observation and situational awareness in space.”
“We are very excited about the opportunities that may arise from our collaboration with AICRAFT in delivering more advanced AI-enabled optical payloads to enhance the performance of Scanway’s telescopes in orbit,” said Jędrzej Kowalewski, CEO of Scanway S.A., commenting on the collaboration.
