NCBiR, or the National Research and Development Center, is an institution dedicated to funding research and development projects. Their goal is to develop innovative technologies and increase the competitiveness of the Polish sector, not only in industry, but even in space. It is worth visiting https://www.gov.pl/web/ncbr to see what projects are supported by this institution.
The funded projects are diverse both in terms of subject matter and sector. NCBiR supports projects related to such fields as energy, environmental protection, medicine, information technology and transportation. Funding covers both basic research and development work, conducted by companies, research institutes and scientific units. Funding for innovation is made possible through a variety of programs and competitions offered by NCBiR.
What projects can count on NCBiR support?
NCBiR support is given to projects that are characterized by a high degree of innovation, significant market potential and the ability to implement research results in practice. Funding is awarded through competitions that meet specific formal and substantive criteria. The institution was established in 2007, and by the end of 2020 it had financed more than 13,500 R&D projects for a total amount of more than PLN 24 billion. Among these projects are those carried out by large corporations, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises, and research institutes and universities. Innovation grants are available to a wide range of recipients, which further supports the development of innovation in Poland.
The process of preparing and announcing competitions
Prior to launching a competition, NCBiR prepares a research program or sector operational program, in which it defines the goals, priorities and financial framework for projects that can be financed under a given competition. These programs are developed in cooperation with representatives of science, business and public administration. Innovation financing in Poland focuses on the most promising research areas.

Benefits of NCBiR funding
Thanks to NCBiR’s funding of projects, Polish companies and research institutes have the opportunity to develop cutting-edge technologies that can significantly contribute to competitiveness on the international market. This support not only enables the implementation of ambitious R&D projects, but also increases the production and innovation capacity of Polish industry. NCBiR places great emphasis on the commercialization of research results, which translates into real benefits for the economy, the creation of new jobs and the development of high technologies in Poland.
Innovation financing for small and medium-sized enterprises allows them to conduct research that might otherwise fail due to lack of adequate funds. This allows companies to focus on developing breakthrough solutions, such as space technologies, advanced vision systems or inno innovative production methods that have the potential to revolutionize the industry. The funds obtained from NCBiR also enable the purchase of modern research equipment and the employment of highly qualified specialists, which further enhances the quality of the research and products being developed.
Another benefit is the opportunity to establish cooperation with other institutions and companies, both at the national and international levels. Participation in NCBiR programs often involves the exchange of knowledge and experience with partners from different sectors, which fosters innovation and creativity in approaches to solving research problems. In addition, projects carried out with NCBiR funding have a greater chance of securing additional sources of funding, such as from European Union programs, which allows for further development and scaling of ventures.
NCBiR’s support also contributes to building a strong position for Polish companies in foreign markets. Projects funded by the institution often gain publicity and industry recognition, which opens the door to new markets and business partnerships. As a result, Polish technologies have a chance to make their mark on the global stage, benefiting not only the companies that developed them, but also the national economy as a whole.
Cooperation with NCBiR as part of development strategy
For many companies, cooperation with NCBiR is an important part of their development strategy. Participation in funding programs gives access to the broad knowledge and experience of experts in various fields, which is crucial when implementing modern technological solutions. Companies like ours can thus develop advanced projects that not only meet domestic needs, but also have the potential to appear on foreign markets. Cooperation with NCBiR also helps in building strong partnerships with other R&D entities and in obtaining additional sources of funding.
In conclusion, NCBiR’s funding is a strategic investment in the future that brings tangible benefits at both the microeconomic and macroeconomic levels. It is thanks to such initiatives that Poland has a chance to become a leader in innovative technologies, positively influencing the quality of life of society and the country’s dynamic economic development.
