Scanway Expands Cooperation with Pixxel During Polish Economic Mission to India

Author: Scanway

Publication date:

Today, as part of a Polish economic mission to India attended by, among others, Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domański, Scanway S.A. and Pixxel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their strategic cooperation in advanced optical payloads. The agreement covers the development of new technologies and the joint implementation of projects in international markets. Pixxel is a South Asian customer with whom Scanway signed an agreement last year to supply a series of Earth observation telescopes. The memorandum signed today expands the existing cooperation to include the development of subsequent generations of these instruments and their adaptation to the requirements of new satellites and satellite constellations. In addition, the companies intend to jointly pursue projects in global markets, with a particular focus on Europe, and explore new business opportunities in exploration missions, optical instruments operating across multiple spectral ranges (visible and infrared), and space situational awareness and space domain awareness applications (SSA and SDA). The expanded partnership is aligned with the implementation of Scanway’s Strategy for 2026–2028.

  • The development of cooperation in imaging telescopes brings Scanway closer, in terms of technology and expertise, to developing Very High Resolution (VHR) instruments envisaged in its Strategy.
  • The partnership creates opportunities to develop business under the Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) model, supporting the expansion of Scanway’s offering beyond optical instrument deliveries to satellite data-based services. Pixxel will also help the Polish company reach customers using products based on Pixxel’s data.
  • The cooperation strengthens Scanway’s position in the European market, particularly through joint bids for contracts in the institutional and defence sectors, while also opening up opportunities to enter the Indian market.
  • In 2026, Pixxel raised USD 100 million from investors to support its further development, marking the largest single funding round in the history of India’s space sector.

The memorandum, signed during the Polish economic mission to India attended by, among others, Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domański, expands the existing cooperation between the two companies into new technological and business areas aligned with Scanway’s Strategy for 2026–2028. Representatives of the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) are also participating in events accompanying the mission.

– Strengthening our cooperation with Pixxel gives us the opportunity to further develop advanced optical instruments and opens up a range of new business opportunities in which we can effectively leverage the complementary capabilities of both companies, in both the Indian and European markets. We are already carrying out a demanding project for our partner involving the delivery of a series of imaging telescopes, and we intend to use the experience gained to develop subsequent generations of products for future constellations. At the same time, we see potential in the DaaS segment, which will allow us to gradually increase our participation in the entire satellite data value chain, rather than limiting ourselves solely to hardware deliveries. All of this is aligned with the directions set out in Scanway’s Strategy for 2026–2028. – says Mikołaj Podgórski, COO of Scanway S.A.

One of the key areas of the expanded cooperation will be the further development of advanced optical instruments for Earth observation with increasingly high resolution. By the end of 2028, Scanway aims to achieve the technological capability to provide imaging at a resolution of approximately 50 cm per pixel from low Earth orbit (LEO), with commercialization of instruments in this class planned to begin in 2029. The memorandum also provides for the potential joint development of instruments operating in the visible and infrared spectral ranges, solutions for lunar missions, and technologies for space situational awareness and space domain awareness (SSA/SDA). The companies may also share engineering resources and testing infrastructure and coordinate their supply chains.

The cooperation between Pixxel and Scanway may also be expanded to include Data-as-a-Service (DaaS). Combining the Polish company’s expertise in optical instruments and image processing with Pixxel’s experience in hyperspectral data acquisition and analysis could enable the joint provision of satellite imagery and data-based products. For Scanway, this represents a potential expansion of its business model beyond optical instrument deliveries and an opportunity to build additional recurring revenue streams from data commercialization.

– We want our expanding cooperation with Pixxel to translate into new business opportunities in international markets. Europe is a natural direction for us, where we can leverage our local presence, relationships with partners and market knowledge to support Pixxel’s further commercial development. Together, we intend to compete for contracts awarded by ESA, European Union institutions, national space agencies, as well as customers in the defence and security sectors. At the same time, Pixxel’s presence in India could provide Scanway with access to new customers in that market. We therefore see this cooperation as a mutually complementary partnership that can enhance our commercial capabilities in both regions – adds Mikołaj Podgórski.

The cooperation is based on the complementary capabilities of both partners.

– As Pixxel continues to develop its infrastructure for observing our planet, combining advanced sensing technologies, satellite systems and software, partnerships such as this play an important role in expanding our technological capabilities and international market reach. Our cooperation with Scanway brings together complementary expertise in satellite engineering and advanced optical technologies, creating opportunities to develop next-generation instruments and deliver more integrated satellite missions. Building on our existing cooperation, we intend to jointly develop new technologies and explore business opportunities in international markets – said Awais Ahmed, Founder and CEO of Pixxel.

Pixxel is a company developing technological infrastructure for Earth observation and data analysis, including advanced satellite systems, Earth observation satellite constellations, and software enabling the acquisition and analysis of information about our planet. In 2025, the company placed six hyperspectral imaging satellites into orbit as part of its Fireflies constellation and is also leading a consortium selected to build India’s national constellation of 12 Earth observation satellites. Pixxel works with organizations including NASA and the US National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). Investors supporting the company’s development include Google, Temasek and Seraphim Space. In September 2026, Pixxel raised USD 100 million in a Series C funding round, marking the largest private funding round for a space technology company in India’s history.
