Specificity of E2 containers

E2 containers are the standard of standardized transport containers used in the food and food service industry for food storage, transportation and distribution.

They are rectangular in shape and made of plastic, such as low- or high-density polyethylene. Their dimensions are 600 x 400 mm, which allows them to be easily stacked on pallets of 1200 x 800 mm.

E2 containers with typical contents

E2 containers are durable and resistant to mechanical damage and to various chemical agents, such as acids and alkalis. This makes them very practical and safe to use.

They are often used in the food and food service industries for storing and transporting food such as meat, vegetables, fruits and baked goods. They are also used in other sectors, such as the chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, to store and transport various products.

What is the flow of a container in a meat plant?

The flow inside a meat plant depends, of course, on the specific work organization and spatial layout in the plant, but in general several stages can be distinguished.

  1. Receiving and recording of goods – E2 containers of food are received in the warehouse or on the ramp, where quality control and recording of goods takes place with the help of IT systems.
  2. Preparation for processing – E2 containers with meat are transported to the appropriate workstation, where preparation for further processing, such as cutting into smaller pieces, takes place.
  3. Meat processing – at subsequent workstations, meat is further processed, e.g. sliced, minced, marinated, etc. E2 containers are moved between stations as needed.
  4. Packing and labeling – E2 containers with finished products are taken to the packing station, where they are packed into plastic bags or other containers. Each E2 container is labeled so that the product can be tracked later.
  5. Storage – E2 containers of finished products are stored in coolers or freezers before shipment to customers.
  6. Shipping – E2 containers with products are loaded onto vehicles and transported to customers.

During each stage of the flow of E2 containers in a meat plant, proper hygiene and food safety standards must be observed, and E2 containers must be cleaned and disinfected regularly.

Due to the nature of this type of plant, the contents of successive containers vary (there are different grades of meat in succession), so it is necessary to track containers according to their contents.
