We invite you to read a short interview with Marek Sobczyk, who has been working as an Automation Specialist at Scanway for three years. Marek is a person who greatly appreciates and creates a friendly atmosphere at work and a work-life balance, so we decided to talk to him about how he manages to maintain a balance between both spheres of life and what his experiences of working at Scanway are.
What attracted you to work for this company, and did it meet your expectations?
I was looking for a better work-life balance and wanted to avoid constant business travel and working on industrial sites. The job offer was promising and my expectations were met – the work is varied, in a friendly atmosphere, and the company offers professional development. The trips to startups that are an important part of my position do not negatively affect my private life, above all they are well planned and I am not surprised by an unexpected delegation. I feel that I work in a place where I am appreciated, and at the same time I have time for my private life and professional development.
Are there any challenges you’ve faced on the job and how did you deal with them?
Working in projects is a challenge – you have to adapt to the unique needs of each project, quickly adapt to changing conditions and requirements of clients, and meticulously plan and coordinate the team. With a skilled and ambitious team of professionals, we manage to overcome most challenges. This does not mean that it is perfect, there are, of course, stumbling blocks, which is probably inevitable in any industry. In the company we try to learn from them and improve our skills. Working on projects gives a lot of satisfaction, and working with a team of experts who strive for excellence is a source of pride for me.

What changes have you noticed in the company since you started, and have these changes been positive or negative?
Since I joined the company, I have noticed many positive changes, such as an increase in the number of employees and the standardization of processes, which has contributed to better organization of work, increased productivity and better conditions for employees and customer satisfaction. A number of tools and processes have been implemented that have enabled us to work even more efficiently, such as those related to software or fixed equipment suppliers. I believe that these changes have been very positive and necessary for the further development of the organization.
What aspects of working for this company make you happy with it?
First, many people indicate that they appreciate the work atmosphere and corporate culture at the company. A good working atmosphere fosters a positive attitude towards the tasks at hand and motivates better performance. Employees also appreciate the flexibility of work, the ability to work remotely, etc., which allows them to better adjust their schedules to their needs.
Another important factor is the chance to develop and learn new skills. Although we have developed some constants for our projects over the years, each new client and application is a wonderful challenge.
And a little tongue-in-cheek, I might add: easy commute from home 🙂

What aspects of the company or team culture are most important to you and why?
First, for me, it is important to have clear values and goals that are accepted and shared by all members of the team or company. This allows for a consistent vision and consistent decision-making, which in turn fosters increased employee engagement and builds lasting relationships.
Another important factor is openness to diversity, I mean a variety of experiences or respect for views. Well, and there is the space aspect, in many industrial projects we benefit from the output or collaborate directly with the SPACE team. This allows us to create diverse teams, which in turn leads to a better understanding of clients’ needs and more innovative solutions.
It’s also important to have a proactive approach to problem solving, and to be open to constructive criticism and feedback, which allows for continuous development and improvement of work. Finally, for me it is important to have a friendly and supportive work atmosphere. This allows you to build positive relationships between team members and to develop creativity and flexibility in your approach to tasks.
